Taunggyi, Shan State

The capital of Shan State about 726 Km from Yangon. A hill station, over 1430 meters above sea-level. Fly to Heho and then by car to Taunggyi about an hour. From Taunggyi it is about an hour’s drive to Inle Lake. Air Bagan, Asia Wing, Air Mandalay and Air Kanbawza operate scheduled flight for tourists to Bagan(Nyaung U), Mandalay and Heho (Taunggyi) during tourist season. Taunggyi is cool and pleasant all the year round. The market on every fifth day is crowded with ethnic minorities in their traditional dresses. There are two Pagodas known as Shwe Ph 

one Pwint and Myasein Taung on the hill top with panoramic view of the city Taunggyi. It is an ethnographic museum in which one can see the life-size statues of minorities with the respective colorful dressing, their traditional weapons and utilities in addition to the dress of the late Shan Sawbwars (Dukes or Lords). It opens from 09:30 am to 15:30pm to except Saturdays and Sundays.
